Short Blog: A Highlight of Missing Persons Cases with Only Few Details Available

Short Blog

I have decided to add a new spin of things to my blog site. I call it a "Short Blog" because it highlights cases that are harder for me to write about due to the very few details available to mention. However, I don't want that factor to cancel out these cases from being featured because they need public awareness just as much, if not more, then cold cases who have lots of details to mention. I will try to present these as time permits. For now, it's perfect timing because I am also currently working on a blog entry that will take longer, because of all the sources to go through, with the possibilities of multiple cases being connected. I hope to have it out by late July or early August. Please read these short entries, and if you have any requests or additional information and sources, please let me know.

Lesa and Chris Cunningham, Missing 27 Years
 (L) Chris Cunningham and (R) his mother, Lesa Cunningham vanished together without a trace. Photo Credit: CharleyProject.org

ON July 9, 1987, 6 year-old Chris was last seen at a school with his mother, 24 year-old Lesa Cunningham, in their hometown of Chino, California. The two disappeared from there under suspicious circumstances. The two were last seen in a Toyota with temporary license plates. Upon further investigation, the vehicle was found abandoned with no sign of Chris or Lesa. Neither have been heard from again, few details are mentioned about their disappearances and the case remains unsolved.

In 1987, Lesa weighed 120 pounds and was 5'6" tall. She had brown hair and brown eyes. She has burn scars on her neck and one on her thigh. She has a gap between her upper front teeth and may spell her name as "Lisa". She was last seen wearing a white smock with her outfit.

I was surprised Lesa and Chris' disappearance did not have more information. I was unable to find any further developments or if their case is still open and active. One of my first questions upon reading what I could find was if Lesa was in an abusive relationship at all? The circumstances have profound similarities to the disappearance of Mary Stuart and her two daughters, Fannie and Jessi Stuart. The trio vanished together while doing errands, only to have their vehicle turn up abandoned. It was later revealed Mary's husband was violent, and the main person of interest. I wonder if Chris' father or Lesa's significant other was also a person of interest? I also question where the vehicle was recovered, who reported them missing and where they intended to go after they left Chris' school? My hope is that 27 years later, those close to Lesa and Chris would come forward with ANY information, including details about Chris' father's relationship with Lesa. I believe this is a solvable case, if people come forward and do the right thing.
An age progression of what Chris would look like today at 33 years old.

Crystal Marie Haag, Missing 17 Years

Crystal was written off as a run away for years. Just recently she is now considered to be "Endangered Missing". Photo Credit: CharleyProject.org
ON April 26, 1997, 14 year-old Crystal Marie Haag left her home on Fulton Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland to help a friend baby-sit. Crystal arrived at her friend's house and agreed to wait outside while her friend grabbed the children from inside the house. When Crystal's friend returned, Crystal was nowhere to be found. She assumed Crystal just decided to leave, and did not realize Crystal was missing until her mother called looking for her a few hours later.

At the time of her disappearance, Crystal was 5'4"-5'6" tall and weighed 140 pounds. She had light brown hair and brown eyes. She normally wore her hair pulled back into a pony tail. She was wearing a gray and red striped Tommy Hilfiger shirt, blue denim jeans. white footie socks, gray New Balance sneakers and a gold C-shaped ring.

From what I have found, Crystal was initially thought to be a run away. I don't know if this is because she had a history of it, was experiencing family problems or simply because she was a teen. However, as time passed and there was no sign of Crystal, her status was changed to "Endangered Missing". I think that writing Crystal off as a runaway took away their best chance of finding her, especially during those first 48 hours. It can be hard to think about how someone can simply vanish within minutes from an individual's drive way, but Crystal's disappearance is not the first one with similar circumstances. Amber Swartz-Garcia, Erin Pospisil and Jason Jolkowski all vanished within seconds from their driveways. That's all it takes-only seconds. Although these cases are not connected to Crystal's, it proves how easily anyone can snatch a victim when they find the right opportunity too.
My questions are, why did Crystal's friend assume she just left? Did Crystal usually randomly leave? With Crystal's mom calling around looking for her only a few hours after she left her own home, it makes me believe that it would be unusual for Crystal to be away for a period of time without telling anyone. It makes me think that it's unlikely she ever ran away before. My question is, are there other cases in the area like Crystal's? Were neighbors by her friends' house, her family and family of her friend crossed out as suspects? Could someone have been following Crystal as she walked and took her when they saw she was left alone outside the house? Was she dating at the time of her disappearance? These are all questions I have, and due to the fact Crystal has been missing for 17 years, I believe someone took her, and that she never left of her own accord.

Cynthia Dyann Coleman, Missing 28 Years
Cynthia was seven months pregnant at the time she vanished.  Photo Credit: CharleyProject.org

ON September 3, 1986, 23 year-old Cynthia Dyann Coleman left her mother's house within the Barona Indian Reservation located  in Lakeside, California at 11 A.M. She had a box full of kittens she planned to give away at a local store, which was only around the corner and down the hill from her mother's home. Witnesses claim Cynthia did arrive at the store with the kittens. Her brother's friend claims Cynthia needed a ride home, and he drove her part of the way there. He dropped her off at the roadside where there was a "dip" in the road. She has not been seen since. She left behind her purse, cigarettes and her young daughter.

At the time of Cynthia's disappearance, she was 5'2" and weighed 100 pounds. She had blond hair and brown eyes. She had tattoos on both hands, one said "FATS" and the other read "LADY". She liked to go by the nickname Cindy and smokes cigarettes  She was last seen wearing a purple tank top and Levi jeans. Cindy was seven months pregnant at the time of her disappearance.

There was further investigation done on the friend that dropped Cynthia off half way home. According to the U-T San Diego paper, Cynthia lived with her mother, which was only minutes from the corner store she went to. Why would she need a ride when she walked such a short distance? Why give her a ride half way there and drop her off in a dip in the road? Being the last person to see Cynthia alive, the friend was given a lie detector test and questioned extensively. No arrest was ever made in the case, as their was not enough evidence to. The article never said if he was ruled out as a suspect. I also wonder about the father of her child, including the child she was currently pregnant with. How was their relationship? Was their domestic violence? Were they still together? I believe 100% that Cynthia did not just leave, especially with her daughter and another baby on the way.
Despite having an array a possible suspects, which it seems more likely Crystal was taken by someone she knew, Cynthia's disappearance was described as "quiet". There were no mass searches, helicopter searches or media coverage. Her case lacked publicity, and vital information, like the fact she was missing, failed to reach an array of people who may have had important information to contribute to the investigation. Authorities stated in the article they believe Cynthia met with foul play, but she remains missing and nothing is known for sure.So to all my readers, let's change that. Please share Cynthia's story. Share her story on your Facebook and other various social media. Put her missing person posters up. I believe publicity is something so important in her disappearance. Her brother and daughter still keep the search for Cynthia active to this day.

John Francis Lango, Missing 26 Years
John vanished on New Year's Day.  Photo Credit: CharleyProject.org

ON January 1, 1988, 17 year-old John Francis Lango vanished from his Pottsville, Pennsylvania home, where he resided with his family. It was New Year's Day, and he was last seen leaving at approximately 12:00 A.M. He never returned and has not been seen or heard from since.
At the time of his disappearance, John was 6'1" and weighed 185 pounds. He had red hair and blue eyes. He also has a burn scar on his upper right arm. He was last seen wearing a gray jacket, Adidas shoes and blue jeans.

There is very limited information about John's disappearance. While other cases with limited information were difficult to find news articles on, I was unable to find any on John's disappearance, which I find very suspicious. He is listed as "Endangered Missing", so he is not thought to of left of his own accord. Why did he leave the house? Where was he going and who was he going to see? Did he walk or take a vehicle? Since it was New Year's Day, was he going to a party? Did he have any ongoing conflicts with peers at school, romantic relationships or at home? Was he involved in any drugs? Was he intoxicated at all, especially since it was New Year's Day? I always cringe when I hear stories such as these. I have heard one too many stories about young men who vanish from parties where alcohol is involved. They become vulnerable after they are intoxicated, and many of them wander from the residence they are at, only to get in an accident, drown in a nearby body of water or become easy to take advantage of. I am hoping that is not the case in John's disappearance, but it is difficult to come up with other scenarios that would explain why he would not contact his family for 26 years.

George Barksdale, Missing 45 Years and Solomon Rose III, Missing 42 Years
George was last seen playing on the steps of the United Church House of Prayer for All People.

ON April 21, 1969, 4 year-old George Barksdale was last seen playing on the steps of the United Church House of Prayer for All People, located at Preston Street and Argyle Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland between 8 PM and 9 PM. He lived very close to the church on Arygle Avenue at the time of his disappearance. He has never been seen or heard from again.
George's birthday was on February 10, 1965. At the time of his disappearance, he was 2'6" and weighed 35 pounds. He had black hair and brown eyes, and could speak very well at the time of his disappearance. He knew his address and the names of his family members. He has a birthmark on his left calf and his nickname was "Sputnik". At the time of his disappearance, he wore a red, white and blue pullover polo shirt, red or blue corduroy pants and black sneakers with red stripes on the bottom.

George's disappearance had very low media coverage back in 1969. He was playing on the steps and vanished within seconds. Nobody witnessed a thing. Police believe he was abducted by a non-family member, but there is no evidence to say he is deceased or that he is alive. The hopeful belief would be that he was taken by someone who wanted a child of their own. He was given a new name, brainwashed and lived a good life. That happens sometimes with children-look at Carlina White. Still, most of the time kids who are targeted for that purpose are much younger. Infants, even, because their a tubula rasa, or a clean slate to "write on". I checked his NAMUS profile and his fingerprints and a DNA sample is currently not available. That makes me wonder if the unidentified persons databases have ever been ran through for a match to George, assume he became deceased not long after his abduction.
Solomon vanished three years later from a shopping mall in Baltimore, MD.
In my quest to find any cases like George's, I was very shocked to find out I did not have to look far from George's disappearance site. On April 1, 1972, almost three years later to the exact date George was abducted, 3 year-old Solomon Gomile Rose III was last seen by his mother at the Mondawmin Shopping Center in Baltimore, Maryland. His mother had taken him and his seven year-old cousin shopping and left them unattended for a few minutes while she cashed a check. When she returned, she found her niece watching TV at Sears. Solomon was nowhere to be seen, and those are all the details available in this case. I can't deny the similarities between Solomon and George. Unless their are some other details or possible family involvement in Solomon's disappearance, which sounds like a stranger abduction, I was surprised to have not heard anyone suggest the possibility of these two cases being connected. Both boys were African American and vanished out in public in Baltimore, Maryland. George was 4 and Solomon was 3. They were both taken at the moment of opportunity when they were left unattended for a few minutes. They both vanished in April, and both cases lacked media attention. These cases happened only three years apart. If they are connected, it seems likely they were taken by a stranger from the area, who came across them at moments of opportunity. There have been very few leads in his case, and we need witnesses to come forward.

My questions are, were all church attendees and friends extensively interviewed? Was this a routine, to go to church every week and let George play on the steps? Was their a stranger watching from afar who learned that routine and took advantage of it when George was left alone? Were their other crimes against children or unknown persons in the area during this time period? Were the neighbors extensively checked out since they lived by the church, which is the abduction site? What surviving relatives does he have to submit DNA or give a new account of what happened that day? George's case did not even have an anniversary article, which made me very sad, especially since he vanished 45 years ago. His case is very cold, and I think a lot of media attention and interviews with his family members, even though I can only imagine the pain involved in digging something like this up again, would do wonders with getting his case out there to any potential witnesses who may not even know they hold valuable information. How well was this story covered? It seems a lot of people were unaware of his disappearance, and that needs to change if there's any hope of finding the truth. If we solve one of these boys' cases, it may help with the other one's as well. Please, even if you have the smallest detail, come forward.
